Kristin King, PhD, CCC-SLP, Vice President of Clinical Education and Research has been a speech-language pathologist in a variety of settings since 1998. She earned her PhD in Communication Sciences and Disorders from East Carolina University in 2008. Her expertise is in cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders with medically complex patients of all ages, particularly those with needs secondary to traumatic brain injury (TBI), tracheostomy/ventilator, and pre-term birth. She has trained SLPs in FEES and VFSS and developed a program for SLPs in the management of patients on ventilators and the use of Passy-Muir Valves at a level-one trauma hospital. She has published several peer-reviewed articles regarding evaluation and treatment of TBI, and she speaks to both domestic and international audiences regularly on the use of speaking valves, evaluation and treatment following TBI, and swallowing disorders. She currently conducts research in all of these areas, while maintaining clinical practice through consultative services.
